In the summer of 2001, I did a little bit of hiking and took a few day trips with then-three-years-old Cameron and his family. The Tolberts have always been fantastic friends of mine, and I wanted to do something nice for them for Christmas. So, after taking pictures of the places we visited (this was before I became more seriously interested in photography), I decided to put together a little storybook, featuring Cameron. We'd visited a zoo in Reno, and also went hiking up in the Sierra Nevadas. We were afraid Cameron might lose interest in the hike itself, so we decided to make it a little more fun. He was very into the Muppets at that time, and asked us if Fozzy Bear lived up in the mountains. We said he did, and that he protected a treasure up there. On the way to the hike, we stopped to pick up some lunch at the deli, and found some fake gold pieces. All along the hike, we would drop gold pieces and Cameron would excitedly find them. Everyone we encountered that day got to hear about Fozzy's gold, and share in the riches, as Cameron's always been a very generous kid, into sharing what he has with others. These outings made for some great photo ops, and the story of Cameron and the Enchanted Forest just kind of came out of all of it. I printed copies of the book for the Tolberts and their relatives for Christmas that year. I hope you enjoy the story!
