Here's the 2-page spread of my winning photograph of Roy, a belgian-mix draft horse. If you open the screen wide enough you'll see my name there, under "WINNER: WIDE OPEN". This photo of Roy was taken at about 6 in the morning, and was the very first photo I ever took with my Rebel XT that I was actually proud of. Roy's owners are THRILLED! I knew the magazine was in the mailboxes because Andi called me last night, excitedly talking to my answering machine .. it was so cool! I plan to go back and photograph the rest of her horses, too. Just kind of as a thank you for letting me do this. She got up early that morning and made sure all the horses were brushed and pretty, and it sure paid off for me!

Genoa Bar, the "oldest thirst parlor in Nevada", established in 1851. It's about 10 minutes from where I live, and a very charismatic bar, for sure! The doors are probably about 14' tall or so, and the doorknobs are at about 3' from the ground. The owners will tell you that it was designed that way so cowboys couldn't ride their horses inside. The interior is all original wood flooring and bar, and the mirror behind the bar (that runs all the way to the ceiling, pretty much) was made with diamond dust in Glasgow and was brought by boat to SF, and then carried via wagon to Gardnerville. There's about a dozen barstools, a pool table, and lots of old photos and paraphernalia on the walls. It's got a big potbellied stove and an antique safe that always stands jut a little bit open. There's a trapdoor type mechanism in the middle of it, and they say that's where they send all the misbehaving children. :) It's a very cool place to hang out, and is a very biker-friendly location.
